Why is NT Scan done?
What is a Nuchel Translucency Scan?
A Nuchal Translucency Scan (also called first trimester of pregnancy screening) is carried out during weeks 11-13 of a pregnancy. The scan uses ultrasound to screen for down syndrome, or other chromosomal or inherited conditions in the foetus.
NT Scan along with material biochemical markers is the first trimester screening for aneuploidy. This reduces need for invasive testing from 20% to
less 3%, also increases the detection rate for Down syndrome and other major chromosomal abnormalities from 50% to 95%.
